Five Boroughs Music Festival is pleased to present Cecilia Duarte, Trio Chapultepec, and percussionist Jesús Pacheco for its 2023-2024 season opener, "Reencuentros," on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 7:30pm. The informal performance will take place at Five Boroughs Brewing Company in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, with a subsequent concert on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 7:30pm at Flushing Town Hall in Queens.

Featuring a collection of boleros, mid-20th-century art songs from across Latin America, the program stems from the eponymous album recently released by Duarte, a classical and opera singer in high demand across the United States and beyond. She returns to her roots with this program, describing it as "a remembrance of the moments when I listened to my mother sing. Reencuentros represents where I come from and the stories that formed me. It is important for me to share this legacy of beautiful music, only a small token of the artistic richness of Latin American music."

About Trio Chapultepec

Trio Chapultepec, formed in July 2019, is a multi-instrumental group based in San Antonio, Texas composed of Vincent Pequeño, Israel Alcala and William Carlton Galvez. The members have extensively studied Mariachi together for several years and have been given national awards in both vocal and collegiate level ensemble competitions. Trio Chapultepec made their debut with Houston Grand Opera in December 2019 in a production of El Milagro del Recuerdo, with subsequent productions at the Arizona, Austin, Fort Worth, and San Diego Operas.

About Vincent Pequeño, guitar

Vincent Pequeño is the initial founder of Trio Chapultepec, and with the help of his colleagues has performed across the globe and in many prestigious theaters. A San Antonio native, he has been a full time musician since his youth with a concentration in classical guitar and Mariachi.

About William Carlton Galvez, guitarrón

William C. Galvez, a mestizo child from the small town of Uhland, TX, started his musical journey playing guitar in an after school mariachi program at Hemphill Elementary school in 2002. He would begin to play professionally with two of his teachers groups such as Mariachi Suroeste (2007) and Mariachi Relampago (2008). In 2010 he would relocate to San Antonio, TX to continue studying mariachi music with Juan Ortiz of Campanas De America. In 2013 he competed in the Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition, where he was awarded Best Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S. by "Lo mejor Mariachi Del mundo" Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlan. This granted him the opportunity to open for the group for their Texas tour in 2014.

In 2014, he also began working for SWISD as an Armonia/Vocal specialist and in 2015 as an violín consultant for the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio. He quickly discovered his passion for teaching during this time, which would inspire him to return to San Antonio College in 2016 to study Voice and Music Education.

While focusing on his classical studies, he would also help establish the community colleges award winning mariachi program “Mariachi Estrellas del Alamo” as one of its founding members. This would prepare him for his next musical venture in 2019 for the Houston Grand Opera. Auditioning with 2 of his colleagues for the newly written El Milagro Del Recuerdo.
