Piano Lunaire and soloist Adam Sherkin open the new concert season with keyboard works from Britain's musical vanguard, spotlighting three composers who rank among that country's most dynamic and accomplished: Hannah Kendall, Daniel Kidane, and Charlotte Bray.

"Composers in Play IV: Heart Melodies" converges its program with Kendall's Processional (2018) and On the Chequer'd Field Array'd (2013), both exceptional essays for solo piano. Complementing these is the American premiere of Kidane's Three Etudes (2020), studies of a special kind that both dazzle and challenge the savvy listener. Rounding out the evening: tender music by Charlotte Bray, from her Chapter One of pieces for children. Themed by "Heart Melodies" and written in memory of Oliver Knussen upon his death in 2018, Bray's Bring Me All Your Dreams, floats (and dances), moving rapidly through various states of a luminous, secret world.

The Composers in Play Series features a radiant line-up of vivid musical voices, spanning eight recitals from Fall 2023 through Spring 2024, each taking place at New York's Tenri Cultural Institute. Come lend your ears to this intimate, impactful platform as Piano Lunaire presents new music by living composers, ever pursuing their best works from the keyboard. The new performance season includes ten world premieres, three commissions from Piano Lunaire alone, and over thirty guest composers and performers.

This series will be presented in person on Tuesday, September 26 at Tenri Cultural Institute of New York; it will also be broadcast via free livestream on YouTube at 8:15pm Eastern.
