Oregon Repertory Singers opens its 50th Anniversary Season with Sergei Rachmaninoff's world-famous All-Night Vigil. Considered "among the most beautiful of all works for unaccompanied chorus" and "the greatest musical achievement of the Orthodox Church", this work holds a special place in Oregon Repertory Singers history. After its premiere in 1915, All-Night Vigil vanished almost completely during the Communist Revolution. Oregon Repertory Singers was amongst the first American choirs to perform the piece after the fall of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, and the ensemble has performed it four times since. It is the ideal piece to celebrate the beginning of this historic 50th Anniversary Season.

While Rachmaninoff is best known for his piano concertos and symphonies, he considered this to be one of his finest works. In fact, he requested the fifth movement (which features both an exquisite tenor solo and the lowest bass notes in the standard repertoire) be sung at his funeral. Oregon Repertory Singers is thrilled to be joined by tenor soloist Brendan Tuohy and bass Eric Alatorre—of Chanticleer fame—for these performances.

Runs Oct. 21-22.
