Join Music Director Anna Edwards and the musicians of Whidbey's Saratoga Orchestra as they present an evening filled with Music, Magic & Mystery. Special guest for these concerts will be Whidbey's "Magician Magnifique," JR Russell, casting his unique spell of entertainment throughout the program.

Come with us aboard the Hogwarts Express as the orchestra presents a musical medley from the most memorable Harry Potter film themes. Over a ten-year period, four different composers contributed poignant and truly magical scores to eight award-winning films. The wizard lives on!

Also on the program is Nancy Galbraith's Danza de los Duendes, a dance for the malicious goblin-like creatures (los duendes) of South American folklore and a work full of lively imagination and percussive energy.

Can you solve the musical whodunit? The Composer Is Dead, composed by Nathaniel Stookey with text by Lemony Snicket, is a musical murder mystery taking place in an orchestra setting. Join the inspector as they draw us into their suspenseful mission to uncover which instrument "murdered" the composer.

Performances take place on Oct. 28, 7pm at South Whidbey High School Performing Arts Center; and Oct. 29, 3pm at Oak Harbor High School Performing Arts Center.

Calling all kids and kids-at-heart to come early and enjoy our popular Instrument Petting Zoo. Here's your chance to toot the trumpet, zing the strings and tap the timpani. The fun begins at 5:30pm on Oct. 28 and 12:30pm on Oct. 29.

About Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island

Whidbey's Saratoga Orchestra formed as an expansion of the Saratoga Chamber Players founded by Whidbey Island's legendary violinist and arts supporter, Michael Nutt. Previously known as Saratoga Chamber Orchestra, the name is derived from the beautiful Saratoga Passage that flanks the east side of Whidbey Island and the stand of trees known as the Saratoga Woods. In 2007, Legh W. Burns, Music Director Emeritus, began a regular concert series performing throughout the island for Whidbey audiences. Dr. Anna Edwards has led the orchestra as Music Director since 2015, and has brought national attention to the ensemble for its innovative programming championing women, BIPOC and underrepresented composers and hosting the highly esteemed Pacific Northwest Conducting Institute held each summer.
