In the chill of winter, we present a simple "still life" – or "nature morte," in French – of music whose language embodies that stillness. We view nature through a kaleidoscope in the exquisite miniatures of Paul Hindemith's Six chansons, in wonder through Ola Gjeilo's Northern Lights, and with tired eyes in David Lang's again (after eccelesiastes). We meditate on death through Bach, and rebirth through Knut Nystedt's reimagining of his music. Other featured composers will include Judith Weir, Astor Piazzolla, Heinrich Schütz, and Morten Lauridsen.
This program will receive 2 performances: Saturday, December 2 at 7:30pm; and Sunday, December 10 at 3pm. Both performances will be presented in person at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, as well as streamed on YouTube.
