Trio RASA performs trio works by Amy Beach, Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel – AND revisits our "Reinhardt Refracted" program with special guest, guitarist Troy Chapman.
We will explore the many shades of Django, including music that inspired his aspirations as a composer. Hear both well-known Django tunes as well as some of his more seldom-performed pieces paired – like fine wine – with music by Claude Debussy, Amy Beach, Germaine Tailleferre, and more. We'll also share a ghazal by the great Mehdi Hassan, born in pre-partition Rajasthan – the land where the Romani peoples originated. Like light passed through a prism, come experience the many colors of Django Reinhardt!
About Sheila Weidendorf, piano
A music major in college, Sheila Weidendor received her B.A. in Piano and Music History from the University of Minnesota School of Music, under the mentorship of the late Duncan McNab. Significant injury sidelined my erstwhile life and caused her to walk down new paths, and thus earn an M.A. in Feminist Theological Studies from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Five children and vocational delights in cooperative management, medicinal herbalism, energy healing, writing/editing, and whole foods catering later, Sheila moved from Minneapolis to Whidbey Island, Washington where--miracle of miracles!--music was restored. Since about 2011 Sheila has been regularly performing all kinds of music in the greater Seattle area, blessed to play with the most amazing musicians and spending her days primarily at one keyboard or another--be that the piano, the organ, or the harpsichord.
She has recorded works by Alan Hovhanhess with the late, great Buell Neidlinger and members of the Alder Quartet. According to Fanfare Magazine, "her way with texture is a constant delight."

Violinist Linda Vogt studied violin with Richard Skerlong and then under the renowned University of Washington violin teacher, Emanuel Zetlin. Linda also studied voice in college and at 18, got the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a Seattle Seahawks game. Her interest in combining her two loves led her to embark on a professional violin and singing career for many years in local nightclubs and studios experimenting with Jazz, country and rock.
She returned to her classical roots with vigor, playing chamber music with various groups for over 25 years, as well as some of Seattle’s top professional orchestra’s such as North Corner Chamber Orchestra, Auburn Symphony, and many others. Linda now makes Whidbey Island her home, where she collaborates with various chamber players while remaining active in the Seattle musical scene.

Cellist Aniela Perry recently relocated to Whidbey Island after living and working in Los Angeles for over 20 years. In her time there as a working musician she performed, collaborated and studied with a diverse group of composers and artists such as Rohan de Saram, Erika Duke-Kirkpatrick, John Zorn, Pauline Oliveros, Sofia Gubaidulina, David Rosenboom, James Tenney, Morton Subotnik, Van Dyke Parks, Michael Giacchino and Stefano Scodanibbio. She has performed on numerous feature film and television scores and is also a proficient electric bassist who studied with Wrecking Crew legend Carol Kaye. Other career highlights for Ms. Perry included performing Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire at the Banff Centre's International Chamber Music Festival, Terry Jennings’ String Quartet at the 1st Annual Minimalist Jukebox at Disney Hall and shredding on electric cello at rock festivals around the world.
In 2017, Aniela raised $25,000 for the Sweet Relief musician's charity when she played for 26 straight hours, unofficially beating the current Guinness World Record in marathon cello playing. Since moving to Whidbey Island, Ms. Perry has joined the Saratoga Orchestra and is eagerly preparing more chamber music performances with Trio Rasa and other local musical luminaries. Additionally, she is pursuing advanced studies in instrument and bow repair and offers these services in addition to private lessons out of her shop, Tiny House of Strings in Freeland, WA.
