Alena Baeva makes her NY Phil debut in Britten's soaring, elegiac Violin Concerto. Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi returns; the concert leaps from the starting line with a high-speed overture by his countryman Veljo Tormis, and ends with Prokofiev's Sixth Symphony, a meditation on the profound losses of the Second World War.
