In Medio: Written In Secret
Pay what you will; tickets at the door only
In Medio kicks off our third season with two examples of vocal music that were composed in secret or contain hidden messages. We pay tribute to the 400th anniversary of the death of English Renaissance master William Byrd with a performance of his iconic Mass for Five Voices. Alongside Byrd’s iconic composition, In Medio will present a collection of African American spirituals, which all contain coded language designed to lead enslaved people to freedom. Join In Medio for a powerful and inspiring evening of singing.
2 performances:
- Friday, November 3, 7pm at Augustana Lutheran Church in Portland
- Sunday, November 5, 3pm at First United Methodist Church in Eugene
About In Medio
In Medio is a choral community of accomplished young-adult singers who make brave, relevant, and thoughtful music for everyone.
The name of the choir, In Medio, is Latin for "in the midst." It is a reference to the process of creating something together and honors the importance of change. The best times in life are often when we are in the middle of something—be it a long-term project, a vacation, surrounded by friends and family, or in the middle of a choir. It's the moment in which you forget the beginning and are not far enough along to see the end.
