We cordially invite you to attend the solo bamboo flute concert "Horizon: Bamboo Flute" by Chinese bamboo flute artist, Xiaoran Liu, taking place at Carnegie Hall on January 21.

This will be Carnegie Hall's inaugural concert featuring the Chinese bamboo flute as the primary instrument. Leading bamboo flutist Xiaoran (Eric) Liu will present a captivating repertoire for the first time in North America, spanning from folk tunes of Northeast China to Guangdong music, from Suzhou Pingtan melodies to Taiwanese folk songs. Each melody promises to vividly showcase the richness of Chinese ethnic culture.

Following the concert, we will team up with NEBULA NY to host a party! Xiaoran Liu, the bamboo flute artist, will collaborate with renowned DJs DITTO and Future to blend the bamboo flute with hip hop music, infusing traditional instruments with a fresh vitality.

Throughout the event, there will be a 50% discount on all beverages, and ticket holders of "Horizon" concert will enjoy free admission!

About Xiaoran (Eric) Liu, dizi

Xiaoran Liu is a leading figure in the young generation of bamboo flute performers in China. He has been passionate about traditional Chinese music since childhood. Under the guidance of renowned bamboo flute players such as Zhang Weiliang, Chen Yue, Yuan Feifan, and Wang Xi, he has developed his diverse musical style. In 2012, he gained admission to the Minzu University of China with the highest national ranking in music, continuing his advanced studies.

During his studies, Liu was frequently invited to perform with the China National Traditional Orchestra (CNTO) and the China Ethnic Song & Dance Ensemble. He has collaborated with prominent Chinese composers like Zhang Zhao, Liu Xijin, and others. His performances have taken him to prestigious venues including the Beijing Concert Hall, the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Zhongshan Concert Hall, as well as numerous other national music halls and venues in over a dozen provinces, cities, and regions. His performance in Singapore was acclaimed by the local media as the "magical flute."

Apart from his dedication to stage performances and recordings, Xiaoran Liu has consistently made efforts in the academic and teaching spheres. In 2016, he collaborated with the Asian Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) for his second solo concert held at the Minzu University of China Chunhui Hall. During this event, all the pieces were adapted and transplanted for accompaniment by a Western symphony orchestra, exploring the possibilities of collaboration between Chinese music and symphony orchestras. This innovative approach received high praise within the industry. He is also the youngest bamboo flute player to have collaborated with the APO. Additionally, he was honored with the title of Beijing's Outstanding Young Teacher in 2015 and 2017.

About Sze Tung (Patience) Ko, piano

Sze Tung Ko, professionally known as Patience Ko, is a highly skilled pianist celebrated for her exceptional musical sensitivity and ability to create captivating sounds. Born and raised in Hong Kong, her early years were marked by diverse interests, including piano and sports. However, a turning point came during high school when a sports-related injury redirected her focus toward piano studies. Quickly recognizing her innate talent and passion for music, Ko embarked on a dedicated journey as a pianist.

Currently pursuing a master's degree in classical piano at the Manhattan School of Music, Ko has garnered recognition for her outstanding talent. She achieved the first prize in 'The 3rd New Talent British International Youth Music Competition' in 2020 and the third prize in 'The 30th "Città di Barletta" International Music Competition' the same year.

Prior to her studies at the Manhattan School of Music, Ko earned her Bachelor's degree from Guangxi Art Institute in China. During this time, she collaborated with esteemed professors and orchestras, showcasing her prowess in performances like Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto
No.1, Op. 23, under the guidance of guest conductor Zhou Jin, a professor at Wuhan Conservatory of Music.
