Santtu-Matias Rouvali conducts Richard Strauss's massive tone poem portraying the journey up and down an Alpine mountain, complete with a sunrise, a hike to the summit, and a violent thunderstorm. Violinist Baiba Skride is the soloist in Bernstein's Serenade, a concerto-like work inspired by speeches on the nature of love in Plato's Symposium.
