University of Puget Sound Jacobsen Series: Resonant Interactions

Join us for "Resonant Interactions" an evening of original music and lighting design featuring Striking Music, a Seattle-based percussion ensemble with Storm Benjamin, Rebekah Ko, James Doyle, and Benjamin Marx; in collaboration with Puget Sound's Department of Art and Art History, designer Mare Hirsch, assistant professor of art and digital media.
"Resonant Interactions" combines a fresh new multimedia work by Marx, Feynman Diagrams, with Hirsch's stunning design incorporating interactive technologies, sequenced visual elements, and live synthesized lighting.
All are invited to a reception following the program hosted by the SAI international music organization.
Admission is free for current Puget Sound and K-12 students. Please obtain a complimentary ticket and present your student ID at the door.
About University of Puget Sound Jacobsen Series
Named in honor of Leonard Jacobsen, former chair of the piano department at Puget Sound, the Jacobsen Professional Artist Series was established in 1984 and features School of Music faculty and their guests. Ticket sales support the Jacobsen Series Scholarship Fund, which awards annual music scholarships to an outstanding member of Sigma Alpha Iota, international music fraternity.

About Rebekah Ko, percussion
Rebekah Ko is a percussionist based in Seattle, WA. Rebekah’s artistic philosophies are rooted in the integration of the traditional with the modern, merging her classical roots with her love for new and experimental music. She strives to create unusual and exciting concert experiences through exploration of performance methods in non-traditional venues, taking contemporary classical music out of the concert hall and into the community. Ensemble. Rebekah performs with the Harry Partch Ensemble, The Sound Ensemble, and is a founder of re·create percussion and Striking Music.

James W. Doyle is a percussionist, educator, music director, and collaborative artist based in the Pacific Northwest. He's a member of the Seattle-based contemporary percussion and multimedia group, Striking Music and serves as visiting assistant professor of music and director of instrumental studies at Saint Martin's University. He's also on the graduate music education faculty at Adams State University, serves on the musicology faculty at the University of Puget Sound, and teaches percussion in the University of Puget Sound's Community Music program and at South Puget Sound Community College. James is co-owner of Pacific Edge Multimedia and maintains a performance and artist-in-residency schedule throughout the United States and abroad.

Benjamin Marx is an American composer, producer, and songwriter. His latest work, feynman diagrams for percussion, synthesizer and samples, premiered in May 2023 at Octave 9 under the auspices of the Seattle Symphony.
