The widely admired Bach Choir of Bethlehem will continue its 125th season with the annual Spring Concert. Entitled "Bach Inspired," the performance will take place on Sunday afternoon March 17, 2024, at 4pm, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem.

Celebrating the Bach Choir's rich legacy, the program is focused on exploring connections between the rich past and dynamic present of choral music. In 1823, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem gave the US premiere of Bach's festive cantata 80 in Bethlehem, at Central Moravian Church. Juxtaposing classic repertoire with contemporary choir compositions, the Bach Choir will perform To the Hands by Pulitzer prize-winning contemporary composer Caroline Shaw. In this special spring event, the audience will also have the privilege to experience a glimpse of The Bach Choir's upcoming European tour program.

About Janna Critz, mezzo-soprano

Mezzo-soprano Janna Critz is a rising artist in the early music, operatic, and concert arena, and is acclaimed for having "summoned up sonorities that were rich, warm, dark, and comforting" (San Francisco Examiner) and for her "elegance of technique" and "vivid vocalism" (Baltimore Sun). With her specialization in Baroque repertoire, she has been recognized for her versatility of style and subtle nuance. She has already begun to establish her skill in Baroque performance practice. In January of 2014 she founded Bel pianto, a Baroque ensemble that presents Italian, French, and German vocal music from the early 17th- to mid-18th Centuries.
