Samuel Barber — Hermit Songs, Op. 29
Jacob Beranek — To the Invisible Listener (world premiere)
"To the Invisible Listener" features pieces that reach for God, from Bach's joyful A major Concerto to Barber's contemplative Hermit Songs based on medieval texts. A special highlight of the concert is the world premiere of a new composition by Juilliard composer Jacob Beranek, commissioned by Music Northwest. These settings of poetry inspired by Soren Kierkegaard honor the life and work of Kierkegaard scholar and Lutheran pastor, Ronald Marshall (1948-2021).
Poet Alyssa Stadtlander, who contributed text to Beranek's beautiful new work, will join us for a book-signing of Homage to Soren Kierkegaard, an anthology of startling new poems edited by Poet Laureate, Dana Gioia. Join us for an afternoon of music, inspiration, and community!
