Beatrice Rana returns as soloist in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2, full of memorable melodies. Renowned conductor Manfred Honeck also leads Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony, a favorite of audiences for its emotional charge and triumphal journey. The program opens with a New York Premiere by Katherine Balch, whom the San Francisco Chronicle has dubbed "some kind of musical Thomas Edison."
