An enchanting 18th-century opera buffa, on par with the works of Mozart, unraveling a charming comedy of hidden nuptials and clever schemes. As the youngest daughter daringly marries her father's assistant in secret, the couple embarks on a whimsical journey to marry off the eldest daughter, so they can unveil their own clandestine union. With witty music and lighthearted action reminiscent of Mozart, this opera promises an enchanting experience for all. 

To be sung in Italian with supertitles in Italian and English. Performed with chamber ensemble of flute, violin, cello, and piano.

About Mary Rose, soprano (Carolina)

Coloratura Soprano, Mary Rose recently made her Puget Sound debut with Tacoma Opera as Norina in Don Pasquale. Her previous roles include The Vixen (The Cunning Little Vixen), La Comtesse Adèle (Le Comte Ory), Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady), and Morgana (Alcina). Mary was scheduled to sing Ms. Nordstrom (A Little Night Music), Josephine (HMS Pinafore), and Miss Wordsworth (Albert Herring), however they were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mary received her Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University where she studied with Loraine Sims, and Bachelor of Arts from Luther College. Currently, Mary studies dramatic soprano Alexandra Lobianco, as well as tenor Peter Scott Drackley. She is based in Lake Forest Park, Washington.

About Dawn Padula, mezzo-soprano (Fidalma)

Dawn Padula, mezzo-soprano is a versatile performer of opera, oratorio, musical theatre, jazz, and classical concert repertoire. Opera roles include Carmen (Carmen), Azucena (Il Trovatore), Lady Jane (Patience 2018 Gregory Awards People’s Choice Award Nominee), Lady Blanche (Princess Ida), Ruth (The Pirates of Penzance), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Meg (Falstaff), The Third Lady (The Magic Flute), the Witch (Hansel and Gretel), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Isabella (The Italian Girl in Algiers), Erika (Vanessa), and the Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas). In the Pacific Northwest, she has performed with Tacoma Opera, Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Kitsap Opera, Concert Opera of Seattle, PLU’s Jazz Under the Stars, Puget Sound Concert Opera, the Tacoma Concert Band, the Oregon Symphony, the Portland Symphonic Choir, the Seattle Bach Choir, the Second City Chamber Series, Classical Tuesdays in Old Town Tacoma Concert Series, Lakewood Playhouse, and Opera Pacifica. Dr. Padula is currently the Director of Vocal Studies at the University of Puget Sound School of Music.

About Michael Drumheller, bass (Geronimo)

Michael Drumheller is originally from Richland, Washington. A favorite bass-baritone in the Pacific Northwest opera and classical scenes, he has been a soloist with Seattle Symphony, Boston Lyric Opera, Tacoma Opera, Skagit Opera, Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestra Seattle, and many other organizations, under the direction of renowned conductors including Robert Spano, Gerard Schwarz, and Leonard Slatkin. As a recitalist, he is especially interested in Russian music, and has been an invited performer of Russian vocal repertoire at the Icicle Creek Music Festival and at Wellesley College.

Mr. Drumheller holds a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University, where he was a student of Phyllis Curtin. He has studied with Armen Boyajian, Robert Honeysucker, Julian Patrick, and several other notable teachers. He is an alumnus of the Tanglewood Music Center and holds BS and MS degrees in engineering and science from MIT. His diverse musical background includes playing tympani in symphony orchestras and drumming and singing for his own rock bands. Mr. Drumheller has been a featured performer in many productions of the late, distinguished Northwest conductor Hans Wolf, and regularly appears as a soloist for Northwest Chorale, which raises money for Northwest Harvest, which fights hunger throughout the Pacific Northwest.

About Théodora Cottarel, soprano (Elisetta)

Théodora Cottarel is an award winning French-American soprano, and has been recognized for her "electrifying" (Schmopera) performances and "beauty of tone" (Houston Press). Recently, she won second prize in Seattle Opera Guild's competition granting her the Artistic Development Award. Théodora is set to make her debut as Violetta in La Traviata with Snug Harbor Cultural Center in New York and as Elisetta in Il matrimonio secret by Cimarosa with Puget Sound Opera Concert in Seattle, Washington in 2024.

Cottarel has performed with renowned companies such as the Rome Philharmonic, Odyssey Opera, and at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Her repertoire includes roles such as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Madame Goldentrill in The Impresario, Cendrillon in Cendrillon, Micaëla in Carmen, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Elvira in Don Giovanni, Servilia in La Clemenza di Tito, Arminda in La Finta Giardinera, and Despina in Così fan tutte.

About David Wadden, bass (Count Robinson)

Bass-baritone David Wadden began his singing career in Boston. As an Emerging Artist with Boston Lyric Opera, he sang the Marchese in La Traviata and Andret in Frank Martin's The Love Potion. Also with BLO, he was a soloist in Boston's Landmarks summer concert series. Local productions included Colline in La Boheme with Longwood Opera, Bertan in Iolanta with Commonwealth Lyric Theater, and Bermiata in Snegurochka with Lowell House opera. He is currently pursuing a degree in computer science at the UW and has participated in opera scenes with the UW Opera Theater. David made his PSCO debut in 2018 as Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni.

About Jenna Calixto, flute

Jenna can be heard playing flute and piccolo in a number of ensembles in the Seattle area, including the Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra, Tacoma City Ballet Orchestra, Octava Chamber Orchestra, and the Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan Society Orchestra. She has enjoyed performing with Puget Sound Concert Opera since 2010. A native of Vancouver, Washington, she holds performance degrees from Southern Methodist University (B.M.) and the University of New Mexico (M.M.).

About Brian Jankanish, violin

Brian Jankanish, a Seattle native, began playing the violin at the age of 6 and was his primary focus until discovering his mom's old viola his freshman year of high school.

Brian earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal College of Music in London, studying with Susie Meszaros of the Chillingrian Quartet. After earning his degree, he was heralded back home by the call of the PNW.

Brian performs with Saratoga Orchestra, Yakima Symphony, Federal Way Symphony, Symphony Tacoma, and Everett Philharmonic Orchestra. In the summer, he can be found performing with The Lake Chelan Bachfest, McCaw Music Festival, Yakima Summer Music Concert Series, as well as many a wedding. He is a regular member of Quartette Con Brio and Abellio Strings, which are always ready to entertain with musical delights.

Outside of his private teaching studio, Brian is an active music educator working with the Seattle youth Symphony Orchestra's Endangered Instruments Program and running violin/viola sectionals in many of the Seattle, Edmonds, and Lake Washington area high schools. He also coaches at Cascade Youth Orchestra's Summer Sounds program.

About John Burkhardt, piano & conductor

John Burkhardt (chorus master/piano) currently serves as chorus master and principal accompanist for Puget Sound Concert Opera. John has arranged and conducted numerous PSCO productions including Lucrezia Borgia, La Damoiselle Elue, Andrea Chenier, Don Giovanni, and I Capuletti ed I Montecchi. John has served as the principal accompanist and chorus master for Bellevue Opera as well. He works for University of Washington Tacoma, managing their communications. He is musically active in the Unitarian Universalist church and has been an opera and musical theater pianist for many years in Seattle and elsewhere.
