The Orchestra's world tour includes some of the most acclaimed classical music stages of North America – Carnegie Hall in New York City, Symphony Hall in Boston, La Maison Symphonique in Montreal, and the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.

A true celebration of a unique cultural moment, the concert is dedicated to the anniversaries of two outstanding composers whose names went down in history: the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff and 120th anniversary of Aram Khachaturian.

About Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra

The Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in March, 1925 as a symphony orchestra of the Yerevan Conservatory, later serving as a basis for all symphonic orchestras of Armenia. The founder and first conductor of ANPO was the Rector of Conservatory Arshak Adamyan, with participation and support of the renowned composer Alexander Spendiarian.

Currently, the ANPO is a national center of professional orchestral music in Armenia. Since the year 2000, the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra is led by Maestro Eduard Topchjan and is committed to promoting cultural and musical awareness among the local audience by performing regular concerts of classical and operatic music, in addition to national and contemporary music.

Along with the works of Armenian and foreign composers the ANPO is committed to supporting the performances of new orchestral works, making the programs more attractive and interesting for regular visitors, connoisseurs, tourists and young people. The ANPO tours regularly and serves as an Ambassador of the Armenian music worldwide.

Music by Aram Khachaturian, Arno Babajanian, Edvard Mirzoyan, Alexander Arutiunian, Avet Terteryan and many other prominent Armenian composers is best performed by the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra featuring famous Armenian and international soloists.

About Sergey Khachatryan, violin

Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Sergey Khachatryan won First Prize at the VIII International Jean Sibelius Competition in Helsinki in 2000, becoming the youngest ever winner in the history of the competition. In 2005 he claimed First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.

Highlights of this season include Sergey's residency at the BOZAR, Brussels which includes a pair of recitals and concert with Orchestre National de Belgique and Hugh Wolff. He also performs with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra with Stanislav Kochanovsky, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and Gulbenkian Orchestra with Lorenzo Viotti, Bamberger Symphoniker with Ludovic Morlot and Rotterdam Philharmonic with Valery Gergiev, as well as at the Teatro alla Scala Milan under Myung-Whun Chung. Sergey also embarks on a tour of the US and Europe with Alisa Weilerstein and Inon Barnaton with a programme titled "Transfigured Nights" featuring the music of Beethoven, Schoenberg and Shostakovich.

The Brahms CD was released in June 2013 on Naïve Classique. Sergey's discography on the label also includes the Sibelius and Khachaturian concerti with Sinfonia Varsovia and Emmanuel Krivine, both Shostakovich concerti with the Orchestre National de France and Kurt Masur, a recording of the Shostakovich and Franck sonatas for violin and piano, and the complete Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin by J.S. Bach.

In 2015 Sergey and Lusine released the album My Armenia, a disc of Armenian music from Komitas till Mirzoyan, which is dedicated to the 100th Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide.

Sergey plays the 1740 "Ysaÿe" Guarneri del Gesu violin on kind loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.

About Eduard Topchjan, conductor

The outstanding Armenian conductor Eduard Topchjan studied violin at the Yerevan Conservatory and went on to study conducting with the prominent Armenian conductor Ohan Durian, followed by valuable consultations from Sir George Solti, Claudio Abbado and Nello Santi.

In 1991 Eduard Topchjan founded the Serenade Chamber Orchestra which soon became the most promising orchestra in Armenia and shortly afterwards it build up a fine international reputation, winning prizes at various prestigious competitions and releasing highly acclaimed CDs with several labels. Topchjan toured Europe regularly with the Serenade, appearing in more than 700 concerts.

Eduard Topchjan made his début with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000. That same year he was appointed Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the ANPO and began successful appearances with the ANPO in Armenia and abroad. Maestro Topchjan earned much praise from the critics and the audience for his unique interpretations of the main symphonic and contemporary music repertoire.

Eduard Topchjan is especially known for his wide-ranging repertoire, where besides the symphonic works are included the operas. Amon the operas he has conducted are: Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Aida, Simon Boccanegra, Otello, Rigoletto, Il Tabarro; Madama Butterfly, Turandot, Tosca, La Boheme, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, Eugene Onegin, and others.
